I've read this comment in a few places online and I'm after some clarification.
"Limited Use Authorized User license – grants a registered user full access to 3 pre-selected modules and the applications and functionality contained within those modules"

    What exactly is a module.
Are the assets application and locations applications part of the same module or are they separate.
Why use the term Module if it just means application?

Modules are just a container for similar or related applications like in your example.

Anything under the GoTo menu or if you have your left-hand side navigation bar open are all modules.
In your case Asset and Location applications belongs to Asset module.

Great question. Modules are the grouping mechanism of apps. In your example, Asset & Locations are both part of the Assets module (along with a variety of other apps like Meters, Features, Asset Templates, etc.).

It's a bit more complicated than just counting the three modules. There are a variety of self-service enabled apps (apps that don't require entitlements) and those self-service apps are not counted towards that. For example, the CREATESR app is under the Self Service module and having access to that app would not require the Self Service module to count as one of your modules

Limited also inherits Express permissions, even in MAS where Express is no longer an option. This means that if you have some users with the PO change status capability but not the ability to create or delete POs, receive POs, etc. and that's your only app in the Purchasing module, Purchasing would not be required as module either.

There are a few modules not allowed for Limited users (Administration for example). Even if the only access the user has is the MULTISITE (Organization) application they would need to be Authorized/Base license due to that limitation.

In a few cases, there are apps that extend to more than one module (SR for example). Each app would only count as a single module for the user and it would use what is most efficient. For example, if you have access to Ticket Template as well then using Service Desk makes sense. If you have access to Assignment Manager (which isn't covered under Express) then Work Orders would be your module.

Sounds like you're on version 7.6.x so I'll answer it from that perspective:

"Modules" are the big groupings you see on the side navigation bar, like Administration, Planning, Integration, Security, etc.  "Applications" are the applications in the Modules, e.g., the Administration module contains applications like People, Person Groups, Sets, Calendars, Organizations, etc.

Limited Users can get three Modules, so, for example, one of the three might be Inventory, so that user can access Item Master, Inventory, Storerooms, Tools, Stocked Tools, Service Items, Condition Codes, Shipment Receiving, Inventory Usage, and (if you re-opened it) Issues & Transfers.  Of course you might choose to further limit their access to just what they need out of that assortment.  Then you still get to choose two more Modules, plus everything that an Express user has rights to.  Except Limited Users are not permitted to anything in the Administration or System Configuration modules.
