I am interested in hearing how people in the facility maintenance area may be tracking restroom availability in a public facility in Maximo and what does availability mean? Does it mean the restroom is totally closed or availability somehow means that the capacity of the restroom has been exceeded.

Any comments would be appreciated as to the real world is reporting availability in this area

I have worked with facilities in classifying restroom locations in Maximo but have not had anyone monitoring availability.   Are you using another software product for monitoring and are looking to incorporate that data into Maximo?

We are not sure yet.  The goal is to somehow produce a report out of Maximo. showing SLA compliance in terms of restroom availability.  To me availability is binary ( the restroom is open or it is not) but it could also mean the queue line to get into the restroom exceeds capacity and therefore the restroom is technically not available.

Certainly there is the ability to set the downtime flag but that can cause a lot of overhead to try to do that.

I am thinking there is some sort of a technology approach to somehow indicate a bathroom not available from a mobile device or maybe some sort of sensor.

Really trying to think how we can seamlessly report this out of Maximo.

I suspect that someone is already doing this. It could mean it is done outside of Maximo and the data integrated.  Don't want to reinvent the wheel if someone already perfected it

    Ken,

I have seen this done via Tririga and integration with Maximo, or just in Maximo using a separate attribute for the Location or Asset record for a room (Bathroom). I have seen this done for Conference Room usage, Bathrooms, shared Office spaces, or even labs/workshop spaces. I think there are various ways to achieve this via the available Maximo configurations (not customization) using out-of-the-box features.

I think if you can clearly articulate your use case, this can easily be mocked up into a technical configuration with options to choose from based on the use case and priorities.

For instance, an attribute on the Location record could be flagged ( or set) using a mobile interaction via an API. This could be a YORN field, or an attribute selected from a domain list of values. You would need to verify in your use case who is able to set the flag or attribute, under what conditions, and how/when it should be cleared or changed. Then from a reporting standpoint you would want to ensure this is tracked similar to status changes so you could see counts, duration, averages etc for when the bathroom was available or not. Potentially audited fields could be used.

This of course could be done for all bathroom locations/assets and then displayed (reported) in aggregate by a dimension like site or building or shift, or a combination thereof.

In my mind, firming up the use case with detailed information is key. I think the technical portion may or may not be difficult depending on the systems or devices you have available or are in use by those you desire to have interact.

Hey, Ken.  If you're still in search of solutions for restroom availability, including:
    • Restroom usage, trends, peak hours, and alerts
    • Attendant check in's, location status, and cleaning durations captured passively
    • Real-time alerts, task management, work order management, and inventory management
    • Real-time alerts for product depletion and restocking needs
    • Stall occupancy lighting and latche
Here's one that is in operation at a number of airports now: https://traxinsights.com/solution-smart-restroom.html

...and yes, the data analytics can be tied to Maximo to generate WOs, notifications, etc.
