    Hello everyone,

I'd like to know if anyone has built a physical count application in app designer and utilized it in Maximo Everyplace using barcode scanners?

    Thanks in advance!

This took a bit to figure out. It was about 8 years ago in 7.5, and the client wanted item and inventory configured for tablet, although it worked for phone too. Small shop, so the physical count action button was eventually replaced by the current balance action button, and a separate button for issuing and cost adjustment, all on the inventory everyplace application. Barcode support was tested leveraging a keyboard download for Android, and all was fine. Later, they purchased ipads, so I am not sure what happened with the scanning capability there.

So, not quite just a physical count application, but it did the work for them which is what they wanted.

    Did you have a question?

It appears the link on the barcode scanner info moved, but is still around thanks to its author, Bruno Portaluri, who has kept this around since 2012.

It's a newer feature, and I'm not aware of someone using it this way today, but the Manage Inventory work center has the concept of recording physical counts and supports barcode scanning on mobile devices (using the device camera). If you're using a physical scanner, most can be configured to act as a keyboard. The work centers are relatively mobile friendly, though it's difficult to use in any other way than landscape on a phone for inventory.

The biggest drawback is if you have other fields you need to display, modifying work centers is much more difficult right now as there is no concept of an application designer and changes have to be reapplied on each patch. IBM is working on a platform change that will include the ability to modify work centers similar to application designer, but it currently appears this will be restricted to Application Suite.

There is also a Reconcile balances screen in the Manage Inventory Work Center. (added in 7.6.1.2).  It's really nice because it easily allows you to see your counts, filter for differences of 0 to reconcile in Maximo and then you can review each count with a difference and reconcile too.   Here are some screen shots.  Note: the Next Physical Count Date is fairly new.  It was added to support the Counts in the Work Center.  Next Physical Count Date = Count Frequency + Physical Count Date.  I added this field to my Inventory screen in the Inventory Balances section so I can see it there too.
