I'm going to take this from the standpoint of a vanilla install.

    What to watch for?
    • Decide on the devices.  Are you going to use Andoird or Apple or Windows?  Are you using phone format or table and if table what size 7" or 10" or 12".
    • How are you going to protect the device?  Don't care they're cheap! Hardened case? Screen protectors?
    • How will you deploy Maximo Anywhere? Download from the App or Play store, or use an MDM?  If using an MDM then you need the infrastructure to build the native app which in the case of iOS requires a Mac and the MDM software.
    • What security or VPN is needed on the device?
    • The age of your workforce.  Generally the older the less computer literate or the more resistance to change, and the worse the eyes are, so needing tablets, not phones.
    • Do lots of testing, in lots of places where the users will be.  The office is not sufficient.

    Costs
This will depend if you are using a BYOD strategy, how much customisation you intend to have, and how much training (if any) you want to do.  There is, of course, a cost to install the product, but that's < 1 day.  There is no additional infrastructure, but like Maximo, the MA can also be scaled if needed.

I'm interested in this thread as well. We have a team of about 25 techs that maintain a ~1M sf facility, and while *I* can see the benefits of implementing a mobile tool, my manager doesn't, so I need some "ammunition." :) I'd love to hear people's experiences - did it help increase your techs' use of Maximo? Did the accuracy and frequency of their actual entries increase? Did they use the program more in general?

That's what we're struggling with - getting our technicians to reliably and accurately enter their time on work orders, use the communication function to send messages to clients or administrative support staff, utilize asset records, add/view attachments, etc. Most of them try to interact with Maximo as little as possible, on a laptop or desktop computer, at their bench, at the end of their shifts (or even only at the end of the week!) and I'd like to change that.

I believe that giving them access via a tool on a portable device - like their phones which they ALL carry around - can only help increase their engagement, but I'd love to hear about any success or failures that might support or refute that belief.

Any feedback from the group is appreciated. :)

    Thanks,
    Amy

    Hey Amy,

I work for EAM360, which is a Maximo Mobile Solution. I can connect with you directly, however, some quick ammunition for you:
    • Our clients report that data entry times were reduced by 80% when their technician switched to our mobile solution from using Maximo desktop.
    • We offer an answer to all of the features you mentioned above and understand that technicians aren't keen on using the desktop system, but they ALL carry a cell phone/tablet.
    • We built our app on 4 pillars:  Ease of Use, Performance, Security & Integration.
    • Our app is used by leading organizations in your field. We're always willing to connect you with them for first-hand accounts that you can bring back to your manager.
Happy to connect and answer your questions. In the meantime, here is a link to our website and my contact information.

Make that one more person interested in the implementation of Mobile Maximo!  August 2021 is our proposed start date.  Our folks use Maximo as a "tickler" to perform maintenance but don't record any metrics.  Thinking the mobility of Maximo might help to increase their communication as well as include more metrics.

    Hey Suzanne,

I sent a message to your inbox. Look forward to connecting and sharing some information about our Mobile Maximo Solution. We definitely have the solution for your team to report metrics easily from their mobile devices, both online and offline.

I have often found a good starting point, when there is wifi available, or mobile cellular data already deployed, is to just use everyplace and Quick Reporting for results. Start with a small group and configure. There is a video regarding Quick Reporting here https://youtu.be/y2NTdfWM-9g and you can skip to about 30:54 to see the everyplace configuration, along with a start center.

If you want to test with what comes out of the box, there are 4 'Everyplace' applications built in, but by default, you don't see them. I generally prefer cloning (I mean duplicating) Quick Reporting, but each implementation can be different, so you can choose what works best for you.

My main point is that this is available to you now, in 7.6 and through security, you can restrict it to a handful of users for testing in your onw environment.
