  • 1.  What is your title?

    Posted 02-16-2022 17:13

My boss and I are discussing a new title for my position.  Some background: We use Maximo cloud-based, and with a third party's help, I am the only employee managing the Maximo system.  I have no direct reports and I report to the Senior Director of Operational Technology.  My current title is: Maximo Administrator/Maintenance Supervisor.  My boss thinks CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) Supervisor would be a better title but I've just been told by a Maximo colleague that CMMS is played out and APM (Asset Performance Management) or EAM (Enterprise Asset Management) would probably be more appropriate these days.

Thoughts on this?  Curious as to what others titles are that manage Maximo systems.  Thanks!

For most people in the role of administring Maximo, the usual title is Maximo Administrator, that is different to a Maintenance Supervisor.

    Maximo Administrator is responsible for:
    • providing advisory services i.e. you want to do that with Maximo, then gentle advise that is silly
    • provide data correcting services i.e. use SQL to fix what can't be fixed through the front-end
    • provide data import/export including report writing
    • provide coordination services between you and the cloud services provider in order to get a backup/restore as you made a mistake
    • provide coordination services between you, the client (i.e. your boss), and IBM in order to lodge and get a Case (PMR) resolved
    • ensures that the system is working how the Maintenance Supervisor wants it to work
The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for:
    • provide knowledge and skill on the plant that they are looking after
    • provide coordination services between you and the engineers i.e. them that place bolt head so close to the flange that you have to get out the gas axe.
    • provide overall wisdom about their plant so that it's running when needed i.e. get the maintenance done by the maintenance team or contractors when it was scheduled
    • provide guidance to the maintenance team on how things are actually supposed to be maintained.
In reality, they are two separate jobs and operate at different levels.  However, you are asking us what job title you should have.  The ones suggested indicate a Maximo administration aspect only.  How about "Director of Asset Intensive Services" and that of course comes with a larger paycheck (don't we all wish).  Whatever you end up with may you be happy with it.  Take what I've feedback with some humor, but do recognise the two roles in your current title, do different things.

Good morning, Lindsay.  One aspect to consider is whether your roles/responsibilities fall within the Business side of Maximo or the Technical side of Maximo. The Business side aligns with the User Business case and ensures all features, navigation, functionality, etc., are present in your Maximo instance.  In other words, you represent your Maximo customers/Users. Typically Maximo Administrator is purely technical and is responsible for the implementation, upgrades, ongoing troubleshooting of issues found, building out new features, processing requests for change to the instance, etc.
One suggestion is to look at jobs listed on LinkedIn and see what job description details you can find for Maximo Administrator, Maximo Program Manager, Maintenance Supervisor, or other keywords you think would be applicable to determine what fits your current role.
Good luck and welcome to the Maximo Community!

Good morning, Lindsay. One aspect to consider is whether your role falls within the technical side or business side of Maximo. Typically a Maximo Administrator is responsible for all the technical aspects of your Maximo instance, such as upgrades, glitch troubleshooting, building out new features, report writing, etc. The business side focuses on the user community and advocating for what users need in terms of functionality in Maximo.  The business side is usually the owner of the solution, and technical support is the business side for IT-related activities.
I suggest going onto LinkedIn and searching for jobs with the title of Maximo Administrator, Maximo Program Manager, Maintenance Supervisor, or any other keywords applicable to your current role.
