  • 1.  Adding Asset to WO business process question

    Hi All,

We're getting ready to update/change how we use assets. Our process is (roughly) when someone calls in a problem, an SR is created. Once the SR is in progress, a WO can be auto created by an escalation or click the create WO button. Either way, we have another escalation that then auto-approves the WO, techs and customers then get notified via email.

One thing that has come up is once a WO is approved, you can't add an asset to it. I'd like to know how y'all are handling this situation. The customer probably will not know the asset number and may not know the room number with the problem. Here are a few of our early stage ideas:

--Once the SR is created, send out the tech, have the tech add the asset to the SR, then auto-create and approve the WO via escalation? Or have the tech click the create WO button?
--Have the WO created in a status where the tech can still add the asset - if the tech adds an asset, auto approve it, if there's no asset needed, have the tech approve the WO? As a slightly different option, have the tech click a 'No asset involved' check box which would then allow the WO to be auto approved?

Again, these are early stage ideas. We'd like to hear how you do things. Simple is better as we are a very small shop.

    TIA!

Check your Organization -> Work Order Options-> Edit Rules. As delivered, changing the asset / location only occurs with WAPPR or WAPPR synonym statuses. You will probably find the check boxes around approved (APPR) status to be empty

There is an example of this in the Simplifying Maximo for the End User video, posted at https://moremaximo.com/viewdocument/simplifying-maximo-for-the-end-user

The video is nearly an hour, so you can skip in to around 8 minutes, where the work order options are covered.
