  • 1.  Download of very large number of Assets in Maximo Mobile

    Posted 10-22-2024 12:12

    Hi All,

We are in process of validating Maximo Mobile for our environment.

Currently we are on Maximo 7.6 and will be moving to MAS in next year. We have One Org and one Site in our Maximo.

We have 4 Divisions in our organization.

How we are configured is that 3 fields, Division, Section and Unit are added in our DB and then data is segregated using these three fields. Other than that every one is in same Org and Site.

The issue is that we are testing for one Division currently on Maximo Mobile.
In that Division, there are more than 700K assets. and this number will grow in future.
Now we are thinking how will this data be downloaded in Maximo mobile. The users work in different zones and that too changes frequently so even if we go in that direction, this will become very un feasible to update and maintain.
So this says that we cannot add zones with users.
we are also concerned that if someone changes its work area will that all assets download again....
Also... is this really an issue.. our tech team mentioned that it took 12 hrs to download the data... and cron tasks also had issue with that long run
Any idea?? or guidance or solution on how to automate?? or any idea how to solve this??

    Hi Mx Pro,

My reply is usually asking that you look at why you need 700k assets on a device when for typically that amount of assets means it's also a large area.  A technician is usually not going to be able to get all those asset in any lifetime.  [Option 1] I would ask you to focus on the assets that are typically needed by the technician and implement a filter based on that.

[Option 2] There is a pre-loaded database option that is built by the cron task and then when the user logs (first time) into the device they have to select which pre-loaded db to use.  It is usually unnecessary to have the cron task re-run on a daily basis especially if you're determined to stick with 700k assets.  Examine how frequent new locations/assets are added and when new mobile users are going to need to download it.  Once a month could be sufficient.  Then it doesn't matter the long run time except how that affects the running of the other cron tasks.  Existing users are going to receive new asset/locations anyway.
