Uploading image to Item master is taking a lot of time (around 3 to 15 minutes).

Total count of records in the imglib table is 174081  Rows.

Any suggestions/tips to improve the performance.

What size images are you uploading ?  (Most tablets or phones/devices) by default are probably trying to upload large images (5 - 15 MB an image) that may not be required depending on the business case. You would also want to take into account the bandwidth you have when uploading the image into consideration. If your upload from a LAN on a desktop I would expect much better performance. If its in a remote site with very low signal cell/satellite coverage I could see it taking a long time.

For better performance in our environment and due to the fact we are using mobile solutions, I wrote a script that would shrink the images down to a thumbnail size nightly for anything over 150kb  taking a 5+ MB image shrinking 99% of the images to 20 kb or under. This is acceptable by the business to only have thumbnail images on the records and I believe this is how IBM architected this feature to be used. But if you need some larger images you could look into resizing the images to an appropriate size and testing that out.
