Quick question about domains that I can't seem to find a direct answer to online, sorry if it's overly simple. 

We have a domain set up for "convention codes" and I have been asked to remove the previous years codes. I just want to make sure that I go about removing these codes correctly. Am I correct in thinking that all I need to do is go to system config > platform config > domains > find correct domain > delete the values that are no longer needed? My main concern here is data for the future. Would deleting these domain values cause any issues, and would I still be able to search using old domain values assuming I know the old values?

I believe the domain values would already be written to the correct WO tables and thus I would be able to search/filter based on them even if they are no longer listed under the "convention code" domain list but just want to be sure.

First and foremost, you are correct that the Domains application is where you would go to remove values and once you remove them from the domain, they will no longer be allowed to be selected.

Whether it would cause an issue to delete the values is a bit more complicated to answer. Generally speaking, Maximo validates domain values on fields when they are set. Records where the field is not modified will typically not throw any errors. Existing records you should be able to search for but will not see the value anymore in the lookup so you would need to type in the value manually by hand.

I normally prefer to tie a condition that hides the value (with a condition like 1=2) rather than delete values that have been utilized. This prevents it from being used on new records while leaving the reference in the domain application.
