Great point.....as I'm going through I'll add that to my list.

I think the No should have just let the pm generate on its next due date, rather than stopping it completely. Unfortunately, there is no real good to dig into the past on the PM record.
However, this is probably a good time to check all active pm's where the usetargetdate is no (0), so 'floating' pm's and see if there are any with open work orders that were due a significant time ago and perhaps re-prioritize them before something else happens, since I am guessing that is what drove the inquiry.

Thank you, Christopher.
I believe they answered No to the question "BMXAA8233I - Do you want to reinstate the preventive maintenance record while you are canceling the PM work order?". Subsequently, no more PM WOs were generated. I did find a corrective WO during the time frame and that is the reason for the cancelation. However, they should not have canceled the PM WO but possibly extended the date.

PM Status will not change with yes or no to pm work order cancellation. Unlike work order status however, there is no history without turning on electronic audit, and even if you turn it on now, you can't see what happened in the past. As for other places to look, you may want to look at all work orders that have been generated from that pm and see if others have been cancelled.
Electronic auditing may be a future consideration, and perhaps even forcing a signature for the status change from ACTIVE on pm; work order status changes automatically generate a wostatus record, so you will always be able to get date / time and more for that action.

Thanks, Christopher,
The use target date is unchecked. However, I don't see any other status than active nor any open work orders at that time.
Is there somewhere else I can look?

In general, neither should stop the pm from generating. A status change away from ACTIVE or an open work order when the use target date is unchecked will keep the next work order from generating indefinitely. Other than that, the cancellation should have just altered the next date, depending on whether the answer was yes or now to the prompt.

Thanks, Christopher,
Since I wasn't the one who canceled it I'm not exactly certain about the course of events that followed. Other than a critical PM was missed. Trying to ensure it doesn't happen again. Understanding what happens when a PM WO is canceled is important. Going to dig to see what processes were used, if any. Maybe a need to put some in place or reemphasize the importance.
It is my belief that the reinstatement question came up but probably answered N. Subsequently, stopping any further WO generation.
Do you know if that would be true? Answering N and it stops all further WO generation?

The message you reference "BMXAA8233I - Do you want to reinstate the preventive maintenance record while you are canceling the PM work order?" is just a reminder of the need to be careful with who you grant 'Cancel' rights to, and to make sure they are informed of the impact.
Then, what to do about it?
There are many thoughts on this one, and here are a few for consideration on PMs - How to deal with PM Work Orders that are not completed before the next PM Work Order generates

Thanks, Danny,
I'm coming in after the fact and trying to determine what happened. A PM was missed and they didn't know why. After looking at it I noticed, what I believe to be the last auto-generated, WO was canceled. Since their discovery, a new WO was generated to perform the work. I've generated a forecast and all seems well. I'm trying to find out how the PM was missed. My guess is that when the WO was canceled, it broke the frequency. I've read that if you cancel a PM MAXIMO gives a message "Do you want to reinstate the preventive maintenance record while you are canceling the PM work order?" so that users can decide whether they would like to roll back the PMs next due date or not.
So I can't confirm but believe it was an operator error. I've never canceled a PM WO before.
Thoughts?

If a work order has been generated then there should be something under Estimated Next Due Date I would imagine. If there is no date here then I would add one for the next date you want it to generate. The checkbox is to base the next date on the previous start date. My theory is that if you do not have this checked then it would generate when the work order is closed, thereby not giving you a true 90 days in this example. We always have the box checked so I've never tried without it.
But I think the real answer lies in getting that date set. Once it is set it will begin to generate Work Orders based on the date. The other option is to manually generate the 1st work order and then the date will be set to the day you manually generated the Work Order.

If a PM does not have the "Use Last Work Order's Start Date to Calculate Next Due Date" box checked and the last generated work order is canceled will there be any subsequent work orders generated?
