  • 1.  Changing owner of Query?

    Posted 08-22-2022 17:05
    Hi All,

We are on a hosted instance of Maximo. I'm trying to change the owner of some queries that have left the company. I've tried Automation Scripts and received the message "The Owner field is either read only or part of the primary key. You cannot edit this field." Not good.

After a bit more research I found an IBM article that states the only work around is to use SQL to change the owner via the back-end (sql update). I can't do this as it's hosted. https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/updating-or-changing-ownership-existing-query-maximo

Has anyone else come across a solution for this? Emailing the hosting company every time something needs to change seems a little silly. I've thought of logging in as the user that left and making the query public, but not crazy about this solution.

    Thanks.

Don't change the owner. As that technote calls out, this information is stored on start center configuration tables and is stored in some other tables as well and you'll break functionality by changing the ownership. We have plans to change this in the product in a future release but no ETA yet.

I'd ask your hosting provider if they have a solution for modifying the queries. For example, when I was at Projetech we had built an application for managing queries that we'd grant customers. You'd grant this to an administrator and they could see and modify any public queries even when they're not the owner.

If you're hosted somewhere else you can try and follow the instructions here: https://www.bpdzenith.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/MaxTECH-Build-a-Custom-Application-to-Manage-all-Queries.pdf though I haven't tested this solution specifically.

    Hi Steven,

Thanks for the recommendation. The blog post was a very good road map. We had to make a couple of modifications for our environment. It's up and running and a great tool.

    Thanks!

Once you're in the situation you're in, I don't know of another solution but editing the owner from the back end / sql.
It does require some careful editing.
If these aren't public queries, why not just copy the sql and create a new query under for  the current owner that needs them, and sql-delete the old ones?

In the future, these two articles about public queries are insightful.

    Hi Rob,

Do take on board Steven's advice and the solution from BPD, as I have run head-long into the issue.  That said, it can be done.  Your challenge is it being hosted, which brings you back to the BPD Zenith's solution.

The sooner the issue with the query owner is fixed the better.

I hadn't read through the BPDZenith link posted above, before my post; that looks like a great way to approach it, after you get through your current state.
