Hi Scott!
Scheduler is really powerful, I know it.
Now, to take advantage of it, you must have a lot of data loaded because it helps you optimize planning depending on the availability of your resources and to be able to know that availability you must have loaded:
- Shifts
- Calendars (productive, administrative, maintenance, etc.)
- Crafts
- Associate the above to the people (the resources that will do the work)
- Associate the unavailability: Vacations, courses, etc.
And finally, assign resources to the WO, in order to have the final availability.
Then, only then you can take advantage of the scheduler that with all that information, can give you optimal scenarios (it even takes into account the forecast of preventive maintenance), but there is so much information to enter previously, that many end up not using it. That is why I gave you that link because it is more functional... it allows you to easily modify planning dates without so many complications.
Regards!

Thank you Martin. I know that integration with MS Project & Maximo has been around since at least version 4.1.1 My personal experience with Maximo Graphical Scheduler I would consider positive, but I think there are likely shortcuts and best practices out there. My "practical use" of the product was with an older version circa 2018. Our day to day users find it to be too slow and would rather assign dates via Work Order Tracking. I'm searching to find someone that's actually scheduling but it seems to be the needle in the proverbial haystack.

Hi Scott!
I don't want to sell or sponsor anything, but I remembered a company that has integration tools between Maximo and external programs. For example, Maximo and Microsoft project among others. I don't know the tool or how it works since although I had contact with this company, we didn't make any progress, but perhaps it is an alternative that can help you.
Regards!

Brian,
Our company has been using Maximo Graphical Scheduler since 2018. We've had mixed success with it, in my opinion. One of the biggest downsides to an organization like you mentioned, rooted in Excel, is the lack of a means to generate a useful printed schedule for distribution to maintenance or operations. We find ourselves manipulating data between Maximo and Excel, still. Should I find a solution, I'll be pleased to share it.

Our organization has recently upgraded to v7.6.1.3 and added the Graphical Scheduling licensing. Looking for positive or negative feedback from anyone that has used this module. Either with success or reasons why it was abandoned. We have a maintenance team with planners and schedulers that will be administering it, (currently being trained) as well as consolidating scheduling processes across maintenance and operations business units into the graphical scheduler. Plan is to move away from a heavily configured and manual process in Excel.
