Hi Maryann, in principle I agree with Craig's comments, but I have a couple of additional remarks:
- Attributes on Items: In the Classification app you have to enable Item Classifications for MR too - otherwise you won't be able to use/see them in the SelfService Request application
- You seem to have an ERP-driven role, so Maximo can help you saving real (license) money on a corporate level too.
- Maximo SelfService Requisitions is the second application besides Service Request which is free of charge for everybody who wants to purchase/request something - MRO goods, Office supplies, IT equipment, Facility Services etc. (please confirm with your 'friendly Maximo-Dealer').
- Maximo can be set-up as central Request- and Shopping-Cart-platform inside your organisation.
- All approvals required in your organisation can be handled through Maximo (supported by MX Workflows and escalations)
- Since all approvals are delivered in Maximo 'complete and in quality' PRs can be passed to your ERP to be processed as valid PO already
- Requestors have the same ability to order MRO goods with required attributes as they have in the PR/PO-applications - only more streamlined :-)
- One of the main reasons to use SelfService requisition for Everybody is to suppress or at least reduce 'Maverick Buying' and to support your purchasing departments through High Quality PRs, which they don't have to check again.
- 'Technical' Purchasing for MRO goods is often a never-ending source for struggle between maintenance- and purchasing departments. Purchasers are price-driven and get a bonus on savings, whereas technicians need high quality MRO goods with specific attributes and specification - but often more expensive than the stuff which purchasers would negotiate!
If you look back into Maximo history of the early 2000s, MRO Software developed an entire B2B eCommerce Suite, based on Maximo-Technology. Maximo Buyers (Requestors) could use Punch-In/Punch-Out-functionality to request or order directly MRO goods from Sellers/vendor catalogs, which were build on Maximo technology too (like the famous SKF ENDORSIA) - or third party technology integrated through standard protocols. IBM discontinued this after Maximo acquisition in 2006/2007, as they had their own B2B eCommerce-Technology out in the market already (sad end of an amazing Maximo EAM-story!!!).
Have a good day and best greetings from sunny Stuttgart/Germany
