Start centers today have been mostly the same for many years. The idea of interactive dashboards, default filters (beyond queries for the portlets), etc. isn't really there in its current state. Currently you'd be better suited utilizing an external reporting tool. I know there are plans to modernize start centers but I'm not sure what that will look like nor when it will be released.
