  • 1.  Assignment tab - why we can select both Crew Types and Craft

    Posted 10 days ago

    Hi,

I have noticed that in the Work Order Tracking > Plans tab > Labor sub tab, you can either select Crew Type or Craft but not both for a given record which makes sense.

However, the Work Order Tracking > Assignment Tab allows selecting both Crew Type and Crafts on the same record. Is this intentional? Does any one know why?

If I have both Crew Types and Craft populated on the Assignment tab for the same record, would that create any issues in Graphical Scheduling or Graphical Assignment?

    Hi,

When both Crew Type and Craft are entered on the same assignment, Maximo may become uncertain about what kind of resource you want. This can lead to:

    • Confusing or inconsistent candidate lists (crews or individuals may appear or disappear unexpectedly)
    • Incorrect or conflicting schedule calculations for duration, cost, or availability
    • Assignments being skipped or marked unschedulable
    • Graphical Scheduling/Graphical Assignment trying to match both crew and craft requirements at the same time, which often isn't possible

In short: having both fields filled creates mixed signals, and the scheduler may not know whether to assign a crew or a person. Crew Type and Craft are intended to be alternative ways of defining labor requirements for an assignment not combined. So in this case Work Order Tracking does not validate scheduling logic...because WO Tracking does not assume how the work will be scheduled.

    To avoid scheduling issues:

    • Use only Crew Type for crew-based work
    • Use only Craft for individual labor assignments
    • Never populate both Crew Type and Craft on the same assignment

This ensures clear, predictable behavior in both Graphical Scheduling and Graphical Assignment.

    Kind regards
    Anneli

    Hello Teja,

From the scheduler planning perspective, you can plan the work either on Crew Type or Craft, accordingly the availability will be reflected in Graphical Scheduling or Graphical Assignment application.

From the assignment perspective, you can assign the work to labor or crew based on you planning with craft or crew type.

In the Assignment tab, you are allowed to enter both Crew Types and Craft as crew types would be built with required crafts. But, I believe you would not be able to assign same entry to both labor and crew.
