In an effort to get more proactive with scheduling, and resource load leveling, the organization is looking to move toward using assignments (typically, they have used the owner field to designate the one person ultimately responsible for getting the work done).

I'm curious how others are dealing with a few aspects of this transition toward planning the labor on work orders.
     1. With generalists as part of your labor force, how are you dealing with work orders that could be completed EITHER by an specific craft or a Generalist?

Here is a scenario: HVAC filter changes & AHU checks - the PMs would likely need HVAC craft as the planned labor to designate the resource skill needed for the work.  An HVAC Mechanic with the Default HVAC craft could be selected easily on the PM.  However, if the generalist does NOT have at least some level of HVAC craft designated on their Labor Code, we could not assign them to that work order, correct? (or is there a provision to allow an override? I seem to recall there might be?)

How do others set up generalists with crafts as Labor? (currently, we have a "GM" General Maintenance craft), but no secondary craft to indicate they have experience and proficiency in a certain area (like HVAC). This approach has reporting limitations. Now that we are starting assignments, I am thinking a secondary specialty craft (maybe with a lower skill level "apprentice" or similar) might be helpful for reporting and assignments.

Do people often use the job title as the Labor's default craft? (For example we have: Facility Mechanic (Generalist), Electrical, Painting, Plumbing, HVAC, Power Equipment Operator, Maintenance Worker (Generalist), Custodial)

    2. We are transitioning to using assignments from an owner-based work order flow.
Has anyone else made this transition and have suggestions/lessons learned?

We are looking at using the Graphical Work Week and/or assignment Manager and I'd like to simplify the process as much as possible for the Planners/Schedulers (same people do both).

IT would be especially helpful to see someone's business process flow that includes assigning work.

    Thank you!
