Is there a way to track the labor and material cost for a specific asset throughout the history of the asset, without opening every work order and calculating individually?

Thanks!

Yes, there is a YTDCOST & TOTALCOST field on ASSET that show the costs incurred via WOs completed against that asset (or children of the asset when the WO was completed).

In 7.6.1.2 and earlier versions, this was done via a report. If you have not been running this report, be aware that it will likely take an extended period of time unless you have just started using Maximo. The report name is Maintenance Cost Rollup (to preview) and Maintenance Cost Rollup Update (to execute the update) and is run in the Asset application.

In 7.6.1.3 and in MAS we redesigned the asset cost rollup process to no longer utilize a report. We cover how to run the new process here: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/maximo-manage/continuous-delivery?topic=assets-rolling-up-maintenance-costs

In both cases, it will only surface WO cost data today after the WO is closed. There are ways to issue materials directly to an asset for example which will not be reflected in the cost value. And I have seen some organizations not take their WOs past COMP which would prevent the costs from rolling up to the asset.

Typically Maximo has a report YTD Maintenance Rollover which does the job to calculating total cost from work orders and update on YTD Cost field for asset.

Now Asset application has select Action - Roll Up Maintenance Cost which does this job in Maximo 7613.
