Has anybody had luck diagnosing and resolving locked JVM's and memory heap dumps?  We seem to have a recurring issue that eludes our hosting company.

Hello Joel,

Java Core and Heap Dumps can be analyzed using Heap Dump Analyzer.

Apart from it things to be checked-
1. How many JVMs & Node Agents do you have?
2. How much CPU & RAM is available on the Server?
3. What is Min and Max Heap Size?

If required can meet over a call and help troubleshoot this. I can be reached on my LinkedIN - https://www.linkedin.com/in/psharmamaximo/

Joel,
Memory leaks and performance issues are always a challenge to diagnosis and in many cases take time as your hosting company and Maximo admin team need to peel back the onion layers slowly and methodically to get to root cause. I normally start out by what has changed such as:
1. any recent patches (OS, database, middleware, Maximo)
2. what are the most recent changes since this problem started to occur (Automation scripts, Escalations, application configurations)?
3. Is it a specific time of day when there are usually more users (heavier loads)
4. If Websphere is the middleware application server there are built in tools to monitor JVM Heap size
5. Review of the Websphere/middleware JVM parameters Min/Max Heap Size, Generic JVM parameters
6. Are there 3rd party adding like Mobile or Scheduling tools involved? If so most of the above applies when troubleshooting.

Just remember to be patient as troubleshooting these type of errors take time and involve a team of people that need to communicate openly and honestly especially if there were changes. Hope this helps!

Hi Joel,

To add to what Prashant mentioned to use heapdump analyser, you can use this tool PTT that is supported for WebSphere. I am assuming that you are using WebSphere. This will help you to analyze how JVMS are getting used & heap size, utilization of JVMS, you can generate a complete report.
Hope this helps.
