I am looking at a way to identify zones buildings and the trades that will work there.

Is there a best practice to this?

What records/fields would you use?

Just to add to this for clarity. We want to split the campus into two Zones, with similar trades teams service each one.
I want to identify the buildings as either Zone 1 or Zone 2.

Also I would want to identify the Labor as Zone 1 or Zone 2.

Do you have locations records set up for the individual buildings?  Are those records classified?  If so, you can add a spec attribute to the record to indicate which zone the location is a part of.  If you have a lot of records to update with the zone information, the MxLoader could be your friend.  As far as labor records you might be able to set up the shifts to indicate which zone/shift the labor record is applied to.  The field is labor.shiftnum.  This might help if you have laborers which might shift sometimes for working in Zone 1 or Zone 2 and could be easily updated.

I think what I'm going to do is:

  • Use the Service Address to create the Zones, and assign them to the building (locations.saddresscode).
  • Create a Craft for the Laborcode to be assigned as a secondary craft.

This will make it easy to select for where clauses in Start Centers and Reports. Also easy to change without much fuss.
