Hi, everyone. I run a LOT of ad hoc reports in Maximo and export them into Excel in the .xls format. As you know, you then have to un-merge all the cells in Excel before you can do much with it. When the report is large, this can either take forever or, sometimes, crash Excel completely. 

Can anyone share a better alternative to exporting reports this way? Do some of you prefer to export your columns directly into a .csv? I often use that for larger datasets like I'm currently working with, but it requires its own reformatting to make it look "pretty." Any tips are appreciated!

XLS format is good is you want to preserve the layout of the report, but not forS

This is a screenshot from an export using XLS.  As you can see the scheduled start date is spread across columns B-F.

Now, using either the XLS emitter or XLSX the scheduled date is only in column B

The recommendation is to use XLS emitter or XLSX.

A lot of times I'll use MxLoader to export the data to Excel in a list style. From there, I'll create a second tab that reads the raw data from the first tab and formats it the way I want it to look. This allows me to re-use the same Excel file over and over again, as I'll just import a new set of data into the first tab using MxLoader's query function. This struggles if the query gets overly complicated, or if the data is more complex than a list can support. But it's generally an effective method I've used for years.
