We came up with a solution, but I'd like to know if there are some other best practices out there on how to handle this situation.
What we did was create a virtual BOX1OF1 asset. Children of BOX 1 includes the pelican case. The 4 assets stored in the case are children of the case. If a child asset is removed from the case and installed in production, we move that child to its current location and change it's parent to BOX 1. BOX 1 should never be moved, but shows us that the child assets are still associated. Then we can move the pelican case to its new location and if there are some child assets still in it they move too.

Subject: Can you only move the parent asset?
We're setting up an asset hierarchy. We have set the maxvar so that we can move the children to different locations but maintain their parent.
What we'd like to do is move the parent, and have the children stay where they are. Is that possible?
For example, we have a pelican case with 4 children assets. All 4 of the children are installed in production and we move the pelican case into a different location. We'd like to keep the children in their production location and associated with the pelican case, but move the pelican case to the new room location.
Thanks!
