    you should change the item's status to "OBSOLETE"

    Steps to change an item's status to OBSOLETE:
    1. Navigate to the Item Master application: in Maximo.
    2. Search for and select the item: you wish to "delete".
    3. From the "Select Action" menu, choose "Change Status".
    4. In the "New Status" dropdown list, select "OBSOLETE".
    5. Consider checking the box "Roll New Status to Organizations and Inventory?": to ensure the status change is applied across all relevant records.
