  • 1.  Data Import Formatting

    Hello everyone!

    I am looking for some guidance on importing data into our maximo system. My facility recently underwent a facility condition assessment, and the company who performed the assessment is providing data to import into our maximo 7.6.1 system. I've been asked to assist with the required formatting etc. I am still relatively new with working with maximo, and have never done a data import in maximo. I have years of CMMS experience, but sadly it's all in different systems other than maximo.

    This brings me to my question. How do I go about formatting/importing this information. 

     From reading other threads and posts online, it looks like this is typically done though the "external systems" application/Integration Object Structures. There are also some references to the MX Loader excel sheet. The MX loader option looks like it might be the best bet for importing the data correctly, but not sure if it can be used for my needs

    I'm looking for any info on which route to take for the data import, and some guidance on how exactly to accomplish this.

    Hello @Brett Hawkins.  What specific data are you wanting to import?  Is there anything specific?  (i.e. Assets, Inventory, PMs, Job Plans)

    My bad, should've mentioned that in my original post. Everything should be asset data. I am looking more into MX loader, and it looks like that would be the best way to make sure everything imports correctly.

    Clean your data as best you can; remove typos, unnecessary abbreviations, make descriptions consistent, codify where possible, and plan your hierarchy. 

    For loading, use MxLoader and leverage the wizard to get you started quickly

    Going to be taking a deep dive into MX loader, trying to learn all I can about how to use the sheets etc.  Thanks a ton for the links to resources!

    Since you're new to Maximo and MxLoader, my suggestion would be to build 1 Asset completely in Maximo through the front end.  Then query it out using the loader.  That will show you exactly what formatting each field needs to be in to mass upload.

    And if you have extra time or resources, consider building out Asset Templates now, even if the templates are 'incomplete', you can fill them in later.  Use the loader to associate the assets to the template number.  Don't use the templates to make assets at this point.  It won't benefit you this minute, but your future self will thank you for it!
