  • 1.  Is there an open demo environment out there?

    Posted 11 days ago

On versions past, IBM always had a "pre-sales" environment up so that users could login and navigate a bit.  I do believe that other Business partners had the same.  I find it odd that with the HUGE push to move companies to MAS 9, there is a resistance from IBM to provide same.   It would be so useful to be able to answer questions from decision makers without subjecting them to a sales call only to hear about the new app point model.

Is anyone aware of a publicly accessible environment?

Are others asking the question directly to IBM?

I have not tried it for more than a year.

    Hi @Scott Schaurer!

No, unfortunately it no longer exists.

If you have active support, you can contact your support and they will tell you a way  where they can enable you access for a certain time. At least that's how it was last year, I imagine it must exist, but you have to request it, wait for evaluation, etc. and it only lasts a short time.

There were demo versions of 7.5, 7.6 that were excellent but I don't know why they turned them off.

    Regards!

We are preparing to stand up an evaluation copy in our On-Prem environment.  It just seems odd that if you were truly proud of your product, you would want the world to see it.   I can't imagine it being so costly to maintain and it could help foster adoption.

Yes, as a marketing strategy it would be good. It was very useful to me because I could test scenarios in the standard version since that is very useful to know how it works. Many people at IBM don't know why they canceled it. I know it exists, IBM have it and use it, I see it when they present it, but there is no more public access.

    Regards!

If you have an IBM Business Partner that you work with they can use the Tech Zone to request an environment for use. It only last a couple days and you must request an extension when it will expire but the turn around to request again is very fast and it comes with the DEMO DB installed. Depending on where you are in the Sales Cycle they can get an extended one granted to do a PoC if that was your intent. I requested one that I was using to prep for certification exams and it was to have expired but is still accessible so not sure how strict they are at shutting them down. I suggest you talk with you IBM BP to get more info.

You have to think about the new App Points model and how they cannot just keep a publicly available instance out for the world to access any longer or it would need and infinite amount of App Points potentially. Not to mention the resources needed to keep an environment up and running with virtually unlimited users would be huge

    Scott,

IBM has a 14-day trial you can register for using your IBMID. It is simple, fast to setup (I think I had access in less then 30min)  and it's yours to play with. You don't get the Admin apps though which is understandable but it is an environment to explore.  Here is the link https://www.ibm.com/account/reg/us-en/subscribe?formid=urx-51868
