  • 1.  More than one Item GL accounts for item (resource code) possible?

    Hi,
Is it possible to have more than one GL accounts (resource code) tied to a single item?

The resource code is set up at Commodity Group level and hence item gets resource code defaulted based on commodity group associated. An item (item master) can be associated with one commodity group at a time and hence as per that rule, the Item would have only one GL (resource code) tied to it.
We have a need to treat the same item as "Supply" at one location and "Part" at another location. The GL account applicable for the item would be based on whether the item is categorized as Supply or Part. So, in essence, there are two possible GL account possible for the same item.
Not sure if there is any way to achieve this in Maximo!

Also, if item resource code is based on commodity group, what happens if an item is not assigned any commodity group or if organization is not utilizing the commodity group categorization? Where does item get GL code in that case? Does this force every item to have commodity group?

    Any thoughts?

    The quick answer is no.

The longer answer is, of course, we can do anything.  Firstly, I'm interpreting the "location" to be "storeroom".

When the item is added to the storeroom the GL assigned to the commodity group is copied to the INVENTORY.GLACCOUNT and INVCOST.GLACCOUNT fields.  The interesting bit is that although there is the ITEMORGINFO.GLACCOUNT is not populated from the commodity group.  Even if you alter the ITEMORGINFO.GLACCOUNT, then add the item to the inventory, it does not copy that GL.

So, to shorten this.  If you update the INVCOST.GLACCOUNT, this value will be used when you issue the item.  I've had to do this only one time.

The only issue is if you update the Update Database feature from the Chart of Accounts application as this will overwrite your value.  You would then have to re-update manually.  My manual update was via a SQL, but can equally expose the GLACCOUNT in the INVCOST.
