Hi Team,

We are currently on Maximo 7.6.1 and would be going to Maximo 7.6.1.3.There is a requirement from our client to decommission some of the existing Maximo servers for cost saving.

We are on horizonal cluster with clusters for UI,Cron,MIF and Reporting.

Can you please suggest if we can remove the RMI servers as they are no longer used for the communication and also would it be ok to remove some of the servers from the reporting cluster and would it be ok to keep only 1 reporting server without any contingency plan for reporting server in case we want to take some of the servers down.

I would absolutely recommed against taking the reporting capacity down to a single JVM.

It is all too easy for a user to submit a report that can cause significant problems e.g. users who try and export X years of workorder records. Restrictions can be added to prevent these problems but it requires skill and time.

The RMI JVMs could be decommissioned but the RMI JVMs don't normally use a lot of RAM.

7.6.1.3's memory requirements haven't dramatically changed since 7.6.1 so the client shouldn't expect to make major savings.

You don't describe how many JVMs are in the system & the number of users on each JVM / fix pack versions / frequency of JVM restarts. These can all determine if there are too many JVMs.

I think Mark has already covered few inputs , but without knowing current landscape and your sizing needs it could not be easy to consider downsizing of your infrastructure.
Also moving to 7.6.1.3 does not automatically suggest towards infrastructure downsizing , it should be based on your usage scenarios and minimal standards like avoiding single point failures etc.
So you can revisit your current load and usage conditions and if it has changed due to upgrade and need lesser server/infrastructure capability then only its wise to downsize upgrading to 7.6.1.3 doesn't automatically qualify for downsizing.
