 Delete PM vs. Making Inactive

Can someone tell me the difference between making a PM inactive vs deleting?  I created a PM that does not go along with the numbering scheme already in place by my predecessor. 

That PM has already had work orders issued on it, so I want to know if deleting the PM will remove any history.

Hi - If PM has Open Work Order issued on it, you can't delete it. The system will not allow you to delete it. When you try it, you will get this error-

Ideally you should not be deleting the PM as it will for sure impact your history. Always recommended to change status to INACTIVE.

Agree with Prashant that if it has generated work, you should make it INACTIVE. I opened idea https://ibm-ai-apps.ideas.ibm.com/ideas/MASM-I-263 to prevent deletes of a PM after it has generated work and its currently on our roadmap. I had fought hard to get it accepted as a defect but they kept saying it was working as designed to allow you to do it.
