I wrote an add-on a while back that allows you to define and manage labels in for Zebra printers.

I had the same issue and ended up working around it by customizing the print layout with a simple BIRT template. I also added a barcode using a basic font instead of dealing with extra libraries. If you're looking for more examples or templates, synponh.com has some helpful stuff already set up for Maximo label printing that saved me a lot of time.
