I am looking for ways to improve the current coordination of workers for certain work orders. For example, if we have a work order that needs workers A, B, and C to perform work in a certain sequence (A-->B-->C), is there a feature in Maximo (maybe workflow?) that can help coordinate these workers so that once worker A finishes his work, worker B will be notified that he can begin his work and so on?

Yes, this can be done with OOTB job plans. You create 4 job plans. One for each piece of work for each labour with their labour, materials and tasks. Then create one controlling job plan with 3 tasks and put the individual job plans in the Nested JP field.
For notification, there isn't anything I know of OOTB but you could setup Automation scripts to send emails on completion of work order with specific job plans.

Are the workers receiving the work order using a mobile device, or are you using paper work orders?
