Good Afternoon,

Currently I'm working on developing custodial inspection forms, at least 5 different ones.

Couple of questions

1) Is there a better way to report on inspection forms other than Crystal ?

2) Its appears Maximo in the cloud does not allow import of Crystal reports ? I was told that the feature is no longer available. I assume its because crystal runtime was install on clients when Maximo was client/server configuration.

3) Given the custom nature of inspection forms, it also appears Maximo does not provide ANY report capabilities, is this true ?

I fear BIRT is my only option for Maximo embedded reporting, with parameters (data range, inspection author, results etc)

Much Thanks

Hello Keith,

1) If you want to use embedded reporting from Maximo, it will be BIRT.

2) Other than BIRT and COGNOS Crystal report are not supported on Maximo

3) Inspection Form opens in Work Center which doesn't have any reporting capabilities.

For BIRT and Cognos is available as part of supported Embedded Option for Reporting. You can also consider Power BI as it gives lot of freedom for users when dealing with its reports but it is not embedded. I have seen many orgs using Power BI with Maximo w/o any issues.

Thanks.

Hi Keith,

Thoughts on your questions: 1) In house Maximo does provide for a better solution than Crystal.  Starting with 7.6.0.8 Ad-Hoc capabilities to create inspection forms and a limited response types were available. Going up to V7.6.1.1 there are out-of-box multiple inspection report and ability to 'group' inspection results and report them together using routes and work orders.

2) Not sure when external report integration was dropped by Maximo.  BIRT and Cognos are now the top promotions.

3) There are OOB Inspection reports available through Work Center. The Inspection Form combines Job Plans, Preventive Maintenance, Work Order Tracking, Assets, and Locations applications in Maximo.  In Maximo 7.6.1, Inspection Forms can be recommended for Assets and Locations by clicking 'Associate Inspection Form'.

Why 'fear BIRT'?

Good Afternoon,

Thanks for the answers.

Follow-up question.

We are on version 7.6.1.2. Norma you mentioned version7.6.0.8 has ad-hoc capabilities for inspection forms with limited response types were available and version 7.6.1.1 there are out-of box inspection reports with grouping.

I had some issues just getting BIRT install on Windows 10, I need to get back to it.

Can you provide a little more details on where these reports may be located ? I have not done much work with Maximo reporting. ?

Much Thanks

Here is the link to the IBM documentation on Inspection Forms.  These are part of Work Centers.

https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/mam/7.6.1.2?topic=centers-managing-inspection-forms

Then another helpful site, laying out the modules and applications of Maximo, is found here:

Hope you find these helpful.

Keith,

You may want to check out Kurve for Maximo:  https://www.kurvesolutions.com/maximo/home

It provides a lot of really great reporting capabilities and is super easy to use.

Also if you are working on inspection forms and want an easy way to migrate between systems and reorder questions etc, the Maximo VS Code extension supports this.

Hope you find those helpful, even if not a direct answer to your question.
